New Orleans - CBD: New Orleans Arena

The New Orleans Arena, located at 1501 Girod Street, opened on October 19, 1999. The now-defunt New Orleans Brass of the ECHL were the original tenant, but since 2002 the arena has been home to the New Orleans Hornets of the NBA. From 2002-2004 the New Orleans VooDoo of the Arena Football League played their home games there.

Hornets 2009-2010 Season

It was great for the Hornets to win their last home game of the season.
It's so much fun to go out of the Arena with a smile on your face. The
Hornets have made it a very entertaining experience for us all, which is one of
the reasons we keep on going to the games even when things aren't looking
great for the team.

The Fates weren't kind to the guys this year. They kept getting injured.
I'm hoping that we got that over with this season and the next one will
be a better one for the team, the coaches and the fans.

We love Jeff Bower and hope and pray that the new majority owner feels the
same way. Jeff has been a superb General Manager. As for coaching...we
wouldn't have seen the talent we have in our younger players if we had
continued under Byron Scott. We want to see Jeff back with the team next
season...in whatever role he needs to play. I think he deserves a promotion!

Darren Collison and Marcus Thornton turned out to be the best rookie
acquisitions the Hornets ever got in a year. They really met the challenge that
was handed to them.

I liked Byron Scott but he wasn't a teacher. He only feels comfortable
with older players and didn't have the courage to play the great young
players that were brought in for him. And from what I've heard, he also
intimidated the younger players so much that they were scared if him. That's not
how you develop a team. What's the sense of having a good draft if you
never get to see them play?

Bob Licht and Gil McGregor with CST are the very best at what they do,
too. The most I've learned about NBA basketball I've learned from a handful
of people. Starting with Larry, my husband, who knows enough about the
game to be a referee. He's a font of basketball intellience and often tells
me what happened a second or two before I hear it from the other "coaches"
I've had...Gil and Bob, Doug Collins and Hubie Brown. When I watch a game
they preside on I know I'm going to learn something, so I pay very close
attention.

Watching other games, the only feeling I get is that I'm watching groups
of "homers" whose teams can do no wrong and every call against them is a bad
one.

It will be very interesting to see how the Hornets Experience changes from
a fan's point of view. I hope that feeling of "You're part of the
Hornets Family" doesn't disappear. It's a great plus. All the fans enjoy
talking to one another after seeing the same faces every year. It's like a huge
party....and they're all glad you came.

Even the people who work in the Arena are wonderful...they know their
areas and guard them like Fort Knox to keep them safe for their family of fans.

We want to give a huge thank you to Linda, Ramona, Gerolyn, Robin,
Earnest, Gabe and Bud for watching over us. You make us feel very safe and
protected.

I know I haven't covered everyone...all the people who sit in our area,
the announcers and entertainers and scorekeepers, etc. but they are all part
and parcel of one of the greatest experiences we've ever had...and worth
the cost.

I hope next season I can say the same thing.
